Tinsel...

...makes the world go round.
It peeps from inside dingy shops,
From warm inviting evening rooms
And even bits on sweepers' brooms.

I believe when winter goes
It's disguised as common junk
As bicycle chains, as strings of flowers
Bits of rope that seem pre-shrunk.

But something happens every year
When higher powers seem at hand
The scrap then seems to disappear
And tinsel appears strand by strand

It's never about the bright red hats
Or the parties, or the gifts
But when tinsel comes to town
The general mood always uplifts.
